How to Design Clothes Digitally – To Create T-Shirt Designs
How to design clothes digitally. I'm going to show you guys how to make some shirt designs for your clothing brand.
I'm going to show you guys how to make some shirt designs for your clothing brand. Of course, we've done this a whole bunch of times, but they never get old right. And in this one right here, we're going to use Kittl. Kittl is dope. I've been using this almost exclusively for my clothing brand, and at the end of the day, I want you guys to realize it's not about what you use, it's how you use it, because I know how to use Photoshop a whole lot, Illustrator and so forth, and you know I've made videos on that.
But at the end of the day, you know it's been a lot easier for me to use something like Kittl, and I keep hearing thislash of the fact that it's going to destroy your creativity because you're using something that everybody else is using. And obviously that's not exactly true, because there's more than just that to it. When it comes to actually designing and getting your shirt out there, you could have the best design in the world, but if you have zero marketing skills, then you're not going to get front of anybody's eyes. As long as you're able to create a design that your customers want and you're going to be able to put it front of their face, then you're doing it a good done. So let's go ahead and get straight to it, start designing, have some fun.
Alright? So check it out. We actually made this hoodie design right here, pretty much off of Kittl, actually from Kittl, and we used one of their designs and we actually sold out of this actual hoodie right here. So you know, and honestly sold out doesn't say much. It's a dope design, and we actually use heat transfer vinyl puff with this. Anyways, let's go ahead and hop into Kittl. Alright? So here I am on Kittl's home page. If you don't know about Kittl by now, it's just really dope overall. I don't even know how to explain it.
It's kind of like Canva, but a better design version of it, and they're always updating it with new design templates that you can use, like this one right here looks like something that's been pretty popular in teacher designs, but obviously something like this one. So this is the Y2K design style. These are really popular, really in right now. They got some really dope ones in right now, so obviously I'm going to use some of these. Go ahead and click, use this design and let's see what else. This is the one that I used last time. They always have new design styles and you know I could be on here all day making up some things. Oh, this is dope.
Y2Kish – The Ransom Style Notes
This is like it looks kind of Y2Kish, but it's also with the like, the ransom style notes. Now this is pretty sick right here, right. So I'm going start with this one. I'm justgonna edit it real quick. I'm going show you guys how I made the previous one. Nothing too crazy right. So pretty much I deleted almost everything. See this one. I still like this one.
I'm actually going to use this one for a future pro project myself and delete that one. Let's go ahead and maximize this. And then I believe we change this to after and then we change this portion right here to hours. Right click, Ungroup, I'm going this around, Move that about right there. Now I'm also going ungroup this. We just want this portion. Well, let's delete this font, delete this and then we'll just group this back up. Then move it like that or so just delete the background again, delete that for the background right there, delete. And now what I also like about Kyoto is the fact that they have layers.
So on here. You know you can literally see each layer. You can do that. You can still leave the file open instead of just deleting it. So I can go ahead and remove that one for now. Actually, let's bring that back, because what we're going to do, then we still use this. Nope, See you after hours. So we did still use this.
How to Make a Hoodie
Make the line height a little tighter. Think the letter spacing too. Make it about negative (20.) No, just the line height. Maybe let's make that negative 20%. There we go. So now we're going to make that brown. Maybe around there, then we're going to make this.
What I also like is they have the document colors, so you don't have to sit here and pick all the colors over and over. All you have to do is you see how this one already has the gold color. So that's like pretty much programmed in. That is part of the document Right Dose style colors. And now for this one right here. I'm just going to make this one pink. Now, check it out.
Might not look like much right now, but this is all we ended up using for a hoodie. I believe we also copied and pasted this one over, made a smaller version over here. So I'm going to save this as a SVG, and I'm going to open it up in Adobe Illustrator. All right? So now we have our actual document open in Adobe Illustrator Right. So now is the time that you take your hoodie and you actually measure it with a ruler to see how wide you want it to actually be, right? So we already have this one printed.
Vinyl Cutter – 12 Inches Wide – What Size Do You Want?
But you know you're going to want to take out your actual garment and see if you wanted 12 inches wide, right? So before you send this over to your vinyl cutter, you want to make it the size you want it to be, or even to you know your screen printer. You want to make sure you already have it lined up to the sizes that you want. Most of the time, you're still going to tell your screen printer what size you want it to be anyways. But you know, myself and my screen printer, we already have that mutual communication of the fact like, whatever size I send it in, that's the print that I want it to be.
Using Photoshop and Illustrator for Rearranging Files
And I also make us some notes. That's off of the document, for example, like right here, because whenever they open it, they can still see it. So I also put like you know this is for the right sleeve, the stars and whatnot. And then I want this in panone color, whatever it may be. So this is where you can still clean up your file outside of Kittle, but you can also use it for rearranging things even in a more further process. So a lot of times right now I'm starting off with Kittle, and then I'm moving it over to a Photoshop and Illustrator to make additional changes that I can't really do in Kittle yet.
Using Kittle As a Base Template
But Kittle already gives me a base foundation of the designs that I want to use, even though, you know, some people think everybody is using it. It doesn't matter to me, because just because everyone else is using it doesn't mean everyone else is using it the same way. Just get real creative with the designs that are already there, and then that's going to take you a whole lot further instead of you sitting there and just using the base template. I hope that makes sense. Although a lot of these base templates are not too bad, like, I wouldn't use this one. Let's go ahead and try it, so I can just type that in. Oh man, that's sick. That's what I really love about this platform, too, is the fact that as soon as you type it in, it turns it into the text that you need it to be like, with all those additional styles and all of that.
So you know, I'm definitely going to use this one for a design, but check this one out. So at the beginning of this one, I already turned into a hoodie earlier, right before this video. Oh, I do want to use those. I'm actually going to come up with a whole bunch of things for my brand today. As you can see, I also used this one once again to come up with a Valentine's design for my hoodie, and I'm going to show you how I put on a mockup as well. So this was the design that I used right here, but I turned into a Valentine's style design for my brand. So, as you can see, it almost looks completely new. It's different from the one that was provided, but I used it as a base foundation.
So let me go ahead and copy this one, and I'm going to bring it over to the one that I'm actually getting. So right there, I used this as a base foundation from the actual design that I got from Kittle Right. So from there I went to this website right here called mock-itco. I also post a link to this one down below. This one's really dope too for mockups, if you don't necessarily know how to use Photoshop and Illustrator. But listen, I still use Photoshop and Illustrator, because just having that type of information is going to take you a whole lot longer of a way. But this is one way you can do it if you don't know how to use it just yet.
How to Print a Hoodie
So I typed in hoodie, check it out. We have a hoodie right here. What I'm going to do is come back over here, remove the background, and I'm also going to save this one separate. So I'm going to remove that. For now, I'm going to download this as a PNG. This is just for mockup purposes, and now I'm going to save the side portion. So here I am on mock-itco and now what I'm going to do is click, click, or drop images here. Now I'm going to move that one about right there, because that's how I'm going to get it printed, even with the over-the- pocket print. I'm going to click, click, or drop images once again, and now we have this portion separately, Rotate it, Bring it up.
Now I have that on the sleeves now if I want to change the colors of it, click, manage colors- shirt color. See, they don't have all of the colors available here. They do have the sand color that we are going to get it printed on, and there we pretty much go. So, but if you wanted to, you know, remove the extra section. What I like to do is download the file, so I'm going to remove this. Remove this, and now I'm going to remove the shadow in the background. I'm going to hit download. I'm going to download a PNG.
Photoshop Tutorial – Hoodie Design
So now we have our hoodie pulled up on Photoshop. let me bring this down. I'm going to paste over my design. Also get the sleeves portion. paste this over again. Now I'm just going to go ahead and hit edit free, transform, move it down below, or you could just use control t as a shortcut, and now you see how it's overlap. The actual hoodie is coming outside of it. What we want to do is go between these two layers right here–no, actually right here–and then hold the alt button and now it's going to clip it off.
You'll see that now. What we're going to want to do is the same with the top portion. We don't necessarily have to, but we're going to see if I do the same thing. You see how it merges into the mask of the actual hoodie itself. So now I'm going to lay it on top. Now you guys might not see like those actual shadow prints of the actual hoodie. So it doesn't look as good, right? So what I like to do is duplicate the actual hoodie right here.
I'm just going to take it and move it over this plus sign. It's going to duplicate it. took everything out of the clipping mask. Next time we'll just copy and paste it all right. So now I'm going to hit control shift u. That's going to deserte it. And now I'm going to hit control l. I'm just going to move the levels up just a little more.
That way you can see more of the actual shadows. Right now I'm going to hit okay, and now I'm going to hit this little screen right here. I'm going to go on multiply now it's adding a little too much of a shadow to everything in general. So let's do this instead. Since this one right here don't really need the clipping mask, I'm going to undo that one and I'm going to clip the textured shadow design on top of just this design. There we go now, you can still see right here where the pocket is, you can still see the shadow of it and you know it doesn't really affect the rest of the hoodie.
Mockup Hoodie Design
So that's pretty much it when it comes to actual mockup hoodie design, and you can also use this to send it over to your manufacturer if you would like. The reason why I believe we downloaded this before is because we're getting like those raw, hem stylehoods. So I took a pen right here. I couldn't find a mockup for it, so I used it to delete that portion to send it over to our manufacturer. All right. So um, maybe I'll let you guys know the manufacturer that I'm using for this shirt style right here in the next video, because it is a new one, and I don't know how good they are just yet.
But that's pretty much how you get a shirt design from Nike and, uh, turn it into a shirt design-hoodie design. I don't know where I'm going with this, but I hope this video helped you out. I like to make these videos because there's always some tips here and there that you guys can use for your actual brand. All right. So, if you like this video, comment like subscribe. I'm going see y'all next time.
